Big Apple Mini Storage
Big Apple mini Storage uses motion sensor lighting that turn off when you leave. Our facilities use “task” lighting rather than whole room lighting when a small amount of light is required and we regularly clean light fittings, reflectors and lampshades to give more luminance to your storage unit.
Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs)
Our CFL’s use a fraction of the electricity and last up to 10 times longer than ordinary light-bulbs. Big Apple Mini Storage exit signs use this type of lighting.
The RAB LED luminance system used by Big Apple Mini Storage is in accordance with IESNA LM-79 and 80, and has received the Department of Energy “Lighting Facts” label. In 2011, Big Apple Mini Storage embarked on our green mission to swap-out our inefficient ballast lighting in favor of 13W high output long life LED lighting.
By embarking on Green Apple – Going Greener Everyday campaign, Big Apple Mini Storage’s has significantly reduced our energy and maintenance costs at our two storage facilities on 124th Street simply by using LED type lighting. The low energy lighting is used for ambient and display purposes and provides our storage guests with a pleasant and enjoyable storage experience.
Our new storage lighting fixtures can be used to achieve LEED Credits for Light Pollution Reduction as part of Big Apple Mini Storage’s Green Apple – Going Greener Everyday commitment.
Big Apple Mini Storage has configured all our office computers to “energy saving” mode that automatically changes to the state of low consumption. By switching off our screens when we’re away from our desk, we can save more than just letting the screen saver run. Our employees turn off their computers instead of leaving them on overnight; this will save on average 25% of our annual energy bill and keep you storage prices low.
Old Cell Phones
Every year, upgrades or damage make 100 million cell phones obsolete and about 75 percent of these phones are stockpiled in drawers, stashed in closets or other storage spaces. The U.S. EPA’s Plug IntoeCycling program partners with major retailers to recycle used cell phones. If there is not a donation center in your area, there several mail-back programs that will accept your phone.
We encourage our staff to use public transport and to use greener ways of getting to work in the morning. Big Apple Mini Storage also want to encourage you to go green, and live green. We are currently offering free bicycle storage with every 5′ x 7′ storage unit rented at our 119 East 124th Street branch beside the 4, 5, and 6 Lexington Lines and Harlem 125th Street Metro North train station. So whether you’re a seasonal cyclist or a daily commuter, we can offer you a safe and secure place to park your bike
